Opera review

You must watch an opera (on video is fine) and write a review of approximately 750 words. Please watch the entire opera with care—don’t skip ahead to the ending and don’t just read a synopsis.

Your paper should include:

Name of the opera and the composer and librettist

Name of the opera company, orchestra, etc., in the video

Name of the director and producer

Names of the principals and the parts they play

A brief summary of the story

A brief description of the costumes and scenery

Please recount some of the more memorable parts, arias, performances, etc. Discuss how the music serves the story and moves the plot along.

Give some background to the opera. Tell us about the composer. What other operas and/or well-known works did he/she write?

This video must be an entire opera, not a compilation or abridged version. Popular works like “Phantom of the Opera,” “Carmen: the Hip-Hopera,” “The Three Tenors,” musicals, etc., are not suitable. Please ask if you have any doubt.
