Develop Good Listening Skills

OUTLINE

  • Proper outline format – example provided below (Roman Numerals, letters, etc.) – Example of format shown below.
  • The outline of the PowerPoint presentation should include details and expanded information concerning the topic of the slide.  (Does not have to be in a conversational format.)
  • The outline is then used as a guide for talking points on each slide subject as it is being presented to an audience.
  • Goal is to highlight on the topic in the presentation and then provide additional detailed information during the presentation as the presenter.

POWERPOINT

  • Limit the use of full sentences and should not be in a paragraph form. The slides in a presentation should be more in the form of short statements concerning the topic (but not just one or two words.) Audience when viewing, must be able to read content easily and quickly. Presenter will expand on the information and details during presentation.

  • Bullet the subject points, SmartArt forms, or use creative ways so they are easily read and have a professional appearance.

  • The slides should not have to be read (no paragraphs, or long sentences) by the audience; a quick glance should provide them knowledge of the topic to be presented.

  • Create the presentation in a creative, but professional manner as if you were presenting to an audience. Goal is to draw the audience in and create an interest.
